Service Points Breakdown
Alpha Gamma Sigma is a community service organization where service is recorded and measured by a "points" system. Membership requires a minimum of 20 service points earned per semester, but many members strive for above and beyond. Service points can be awarded for service given to the club, campus and community in order to encourage service, leadership development and team work. Points may only be earned for work which offers no other form of compensation, including pay, class credit, course units or other forms of exchange.
Members are encouraged to engage in a variety of student-lead club and community activities. The club hosts a variety of activities throughout the year, which include community service opportunities, fundraisers, socials, workshops, campus collaborations and attends regional and statewide AGS conferences. Out of the 20 needed service points, there is a 10 point requirement for club activities (which can include club community service projects, attending club meetings and time spent working on a committee). Within those 10 points, we ask 5 points helping with club fundraising and 3 points working on a committee. Members are also earn 3 community service points (they can be with the club or outside of the club). Check out Louella's visual explanation of points. Please be aware that verification is needed when documenting service points. (verification forms are available in the Club Forms tab). Members are encouraged to (1) keep a personal record of points earned and (2) begin earning points early in the semester in order to avoid urgency to find activities toward the end of the semester and (3) prepare to complete a Service Summary by the last day of the instruction.
